1What Is WhatsApp Web?

WhatsApp Web lets you send and receive messages directly from your computer's browser — no extra app to download. It works on Chrome, Edge, Safari, and Firefox.

Important: You must already have WhatsApp installed on your phone with an active phone number before you can log in on a computer.

2QR Code Login (Most Common)

This is the official, recommended method and works for most users.

On your computer

  1. Open your browser and go to web.whatsapp.com. A QR code will appear.
  2. Keep this page open — do not close it.

On your phone

  1. Open WhatsApp on your phone.
  2. Android: Tap the ⋮ menu (top right) → select Linked Devices.
  3. iPhone: Tap Settings (bottom) → select Linked Devices.
  4. Tap the Link a Device button.
  5. Your phone camera opens automatically — point it at the QR code on your computer screen.
Once scanned, your chats load on the computer within seconds and you can start messaging.

▶Try It: Interactive QR Demo

3Phone Number Login (No Camera Needed)

Use this alternative if your camera is broken or scanning the QR code is difficult.

On your computer

  1. Go to web.whatsapp.com.
  2. Click Log in with phone number below the QR code.
  3. Select your country and enter the phone number linked to your WhatsApp account.
  4. An 8-character code appears on screen. Note: this code expires quickly, so have your phone ready.

On your phone

  1. You'll get a WhatsApp notification saying "Enter code to link a new device." Tap that notification.
  2. Your phone shows the device being linked. Confirm it's correct, then tap Confirm.
  3. If you have fingerprint or Face ID enabled, verify your identity.
  4. Enter the 8-character code shown on your computer.
Once verified, you're logged in automatically on the computer.

4After You Log In

Can my phone be offline?

Yes. Since 2022, WhatsApp Web keeps working even if your phone is offline. But you must open WhatsApp on your phone at least once every 14 days, or all linked devices get logged out automatically.

Up to 4 linked devices (including browsers, the desktop app, and tablets).

How do I log out on a public computer?

Click the Settings (gear icon) in the bottom-left of WhatsApp on the computer → Log out. Or go to Linked Devices on your phone, select the device, and tap Log Out.
